In 2003, Anna Schuleit was commissioned to create a memorial for the closing of the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. The facility which had been in operation for almost a century had touched countless lives and was pending for demolition. The visual artist decided to bring life and colours to the building by creating an incredible art installation entitled “Bloom”, using 28,000 potted flowers that filled the entire building. It was open to the public during a 4-day period, creating a unique experience far more powerful than any speech or memorial plaque.
